Dresden Plate Block Made with a Wedge Ruler Workshop
Mary McKenzie, a member of NCQG, will lead us in making a Dresden Plate block with a modern twist.
Mary will be teaching âVintage Spinâ from Kathy Doughtyâs book, âAdding Layersâ. The block is a Dresden Plate pattern made with a 18-degree wedge ruler.
It has 20 segments, (10 light and 10 contrasting and a circle for the centre). Easy peasy! The block is sewn as a circle. You can leave the circle whole and applique it onto a background or cut into a 13 1/2â square. Two very different looks. Itâs all about your fabric choices.
If you want an even more dynamic look, you can sew strips of contrasting and variable widths of fabric together and then cut out your wedges. There are âsewâ many options!
Check out the pictures of some of the quilts Mary has made using the wedge ruler.
If you like these quilts, sign up for the class. Mary promises it wonât hurt!
