Norfolk Went Dark — And Somehow, We Survived

Norfolk County had a massive power outage this week. No Wi-Fi, no Netflix, no TikTok — just the terrifying sound of… silence.

At first, the panic was real. What’s the point of making dinner if you can’t post it to Instagram? How do you even know it’s raining if The Weather Network app won’t load?

But then something weird happened. People actually went outside. Neighbors talked to each other. Kids discovered bikes are not just vintage furniture. Families played board games — you know, those cardboard apps powered by dice.

One local summed it up best: “Truthfully, that power outage was refreshing. No devices (aka no distractions), no background noise, outdoors all day. I could get used to that.”

Of course, freezers melted and coffee machines refused to cooperate — but for a brief moment, Norfolk proved it could function without being plugged in. And honestly? It wasn’t the end of the world.

Just… next time, Hydro One, maybe warn us so we can charge our phones first.
